Introduction
This annotation guide was created to develop a set of standards for annotating images for the Puryfi detection program.
This guide will serve as a reference guide for annotaters to make sure the annotation quality is high from now on.

Annotation Best Practices and Requirements
Why is it so important?
It is incredibly important that every image that is annotated and put into the dataset is correct. To explain why, I present an example. If someone doesn’t annotate feet boxes in 1000 images and uploads them, then the neural network will think, “These 1000 images don’t have feet in them so I’m learning what feet don’t look like” when in reality there were feet there but they just weren’t annotated. If you get anything from this whole guide remember this sentence . Annotating images at poor or mediocre quality with missing or incorrect annotations only hurts the program. One person that annotates 20 images at an excellent quality is far more valuable to the program that one who annotates 2000 images at mediocre quality.
Annotation Requirements
In general, the most common issues we ran into while reviewing our dataset were missing annotations (particularly armpits, anus, feet, buttocks), using one box for 2 boobs/feet, and having annotations that should not exist (ie they were generated and never verified and removed correctly). Below, we have laid out information for every annotation with a description of the annotation, rules about when and when not to use the annotation, and at least 2 correct and incorrect examples involving that annotation.
